XXII International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society

SCCC 2002

University of Atacama

6-8 November 2002, Copiapo

Atacama, CHILE, South-America

The International Conference of the Chilean Computer Science Society is one of the oldest and most important computer science conferences in Latin America. It has one of the highest-quality technical levels among conferences in the region.   Since its inception, more than 20 years ago, it provides an international forum for presenting recent results in all subjects of computer science research. Proceedings are published by IEEE-CS
Press, and authors are invited to submit an extended abstract in English, of at most ten pages. The deadline for electronic submission to sccc2002@ing.puc.cl is May 15th, 2002. Paper presentations and invited talks are in English.

The conference will be held in Copiapo, a small city located at about 800 Kms. north of Santiago. Copiapo is the center of an active region that combines minning and agriculture. The first built south american railway linked Copiapo with Caldera, a port city 75 km to the northwest. Very close is Bahia Inglesa, famous for its white-sand beaches and calm waters.

The SCCC conference is part of the Chilean Computing Week 2002, which also includes two national congresses: one on CS Higher Education, and another on Computer Science aimed at presenting research work mainly in Spanish and Portuguese. In addition, a number of workshops in Spanish are held, wherein regional researchers discuss ongoing projects. Workshops scheduled for 2002 are on software engineering, artificial intelligence, parallel and distributed computing, and databases.

Papers presenting original research in Computer Science are being sought. Typical, but not exclusive, topics include:

      o Computing theory
      o Algorithms and data structures
      o Computer algebra
      o Artificial intelligence
      o Computer graphics
      o Databases
      o Computer architecture
      o Operating systems
      o Parallel and distributed systems
      o Data communications
      o Programming languages
      o Software engineering
      o Office automation structures
      o Simulation
